It’s that time of year again when the holidays are upon us and we have so many things to do. This is also a time of feasting and special treats that might not be all that good for your smile. So today we’d like to take a moment and share some things for you to keep your smile healthy and bright during the holiday season.

Stick to your daily oral hygiene routine. The ADA recommends brushing your pearly whites twice a day for two minutes each time, and December isn’t the time to slack. Using ADA approved products, such as a fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush can help protect your teeth and gums.

Watch what you eat. Cookies, pies, candies, these are all popular during the holidays, but we encourage you to limit those and eat plenty of fresh, raw vegetables as well. Carrots, celery, etc. are all good for your smile.

Hydrate. Keep yourself well hydrated with water in between the holiday busyness. It’s tempting to drink sugary drinks, but your smile will pay the price. Drinking tap water with fluoride will also give your pearly whites a boost.

Keep your smile safe. If you are playing contact sports, be sure to keep your teeth safe by wearing a mouth guard.

End of year dental cleaning. If you have a dental cleaning scheduled before the year ends, please don’t skip it! These visits are vital to keeping away tooth decay and gum disease. Plus, having a clean smile with a fresh breath is an asset during the social holiday season!

Our dentist, Dr. Dayton Hart is here to help you have a healthy smile all year round. If you would like to schedule a visit or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give our team a call at 251-943-2471 today. Dayton Hart DMD in Foley, Alabama, is happy to keep you smiling!
